    Cornell is once again participating in a 8-week Recyclemania Competition (Feb. 5-April 1), competing against colleges across the nation. 

    Help the university win by reducing waste on campus. As part of this effort, for the next eight Wednesdays, 10 a.m.-noon, bring your own mug to Ho Plaza outside Willard Straight Hall for coffee, chocolate and tea. (Disposable cups will not be provided)

    Join the entire Cornell community in learning how to reduce personal waste and improve waste-sorting across campus (trash, recycling, compost).

    What is a decade?

    In Bartels’ years, it is recognizing 58 Building Care staff with the Bartels Award for Custodial Service Excellence, and providing scholarships for 15 Building Care staff and 44 children of department staff.

    Phil Bartels ’71, his wife Susan and their daughter and Cornell University Council member, Katie Bartels ’06, returned to Cornell to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Bartels awards and scholarship program, Dec. 20 in Call Auditorium. They joined Vice President KyuJung Whang; former director of Building Care Rob Osborn and his wife, Mary Beth; and Facilities Management leadership to recognize the work of about 400 Building Care staff, hand out awards to six custodial and housekeeping staff members, and present one staff member and 10 children of staff members with scholarships.

    KyuJung Whang, vice president for infrastructure, properties and planning (IPP), has accepted the position of vice president for facilities at Princeton University. His last day at Cornell will be Jan. 20, 2017.

    Whang began his Cornell career in 2006. In the 10 years since, he has overseen Cornell’s conversion from coal heating to natural gas, reorganized his division to better meet the needs of the changing university, furthered university initiatives in diversity and sustainability, and led IPP initiatives in leadership development, staff training and recognition.

    Under Whang’s leadership, the Ithaca campus saw significant growth and development enhancing the quality of campus aesthetics, including several designs by world-renowned architects. Whang was instrumental during the competition and development phases of the Cornell Tech campus, and led the development of the Cornell Tech master plan now being implemented....
